Project Overview

Foremarket is a prediction markets platform where users trade on real-world outcomes — from politics and economics to AI and crypto. The core idea: "Forecast the future. Get rewarded for being right." The product needed a design that made complex probability mechanics feel approachable — not like a trading terminal reserved for quants.

The core challenge was reducing cognitive load around YES/NO pricing, liquidity depth, and settlement timelines — all without sacrificing depth for experienced bettors. Every market card had to communicate the event, the current probability split, volume, participants, and time-to-close in a single glance.

Design Challenges

✔️ Designing market cards that conveyed probability, volume, participant count, and urgency without becoming cluttered.
✔️ Building a Markets browser with multi-dimensional category filtering (AI & Technology, Crypto, Politics, Finance, Science, Climate) that felt fast and intuitive.
✔️ Creating a "Create a Market" flow that guided users through sourcing, rules, and resolution criteria — with safeguards against ambiguous questions.
✔️ Establishing a Leaderboard and Portfolio experience that motivated continued engagement without gamification that felt cheap.

Design Process

1. Research: Audited Polymarket and Metaculus UX; found settlement-rule confusion and hidden fees were top abandonment triggers.
2. Information Architecture: Structured three primary user goals — discover, trade, and track — each with a dedicated navigation destination.
3. Market Card Design: Tested multiple card layouts; landed on event-first hierarchy (question → YES/NO probability bars → volume/participants/expiry) over data-dense table formats.
4. Category Filtering: Designed persistent, horizontally scrollable pill filters aligned to trending topics — updating results instantly without a full page reload.
5. Visual System: Light-mode UI with a clean white/green palette; green reserved exclusively for positive probability signals. High contrast ratios throughout for readability under varying lighting.
6. Validation: Ran usability tests on trade confirmation screens — iterated until testers could confidently state their max loss before submitting.

Outcome

The final design establishes Foremarket as a credible, premium-feeling prediction platform — one that rewards knowledge rather than intimidating newcomers. The clean visual language, outcome-first card hierarchy, and frictionless category discovery create a product that feels as trustworthy as it is engaging.
